Open Championship

Over the last weekend, more than 400 fighters from UK and across Europe descended on Barnsley Metrodome for the inaugural YOKKAO UK Open Championship. The 2-day event which featured both Muay Thai and K-1 kickboxing competitions, concluded with a resounding success.

On Saturday, 350 Muay Thai fighters took turns to compete in the 5 rings during the course of day one. There was a total of 180 categories with athletes from as young as 5 years old taking part. Regardless of age, the competitors gave all they have got to battle for the YOKKAO Open championship belts. The action continued on Sunday with kickboxing where 65 categories were contested in 2 boxing rings. It was a great success with the event running like clockwork, and more importantly, in the safest of environment for all amateur competitors. For 2 days, attendees were treated to the amazing talent on display in the rings. The true highlight of the event was the sportsmanship and camaraderie on show from fighters, parents and families involved. In terms of scale, YOKKAO UK Open was of epic proportions. Win, lose or draw, it’s an amazing experience for the young participants and amateur competitors to be part of it. YOKKAO UK Open has set a high bar for subsequent events to follow. There are now plans in the pipeline to take the Open globally to different countries, and culminating in the YOKKAO World Finals. The details are being worked on and will be updated once they are confirmed.
