Superlek Captures World Flyweight Kickboxing Championship at ONE Fight Night 6

Superlek has just added to his growing and already impressive list of achievements. The ‘Kicking Machine’ emerged triumphant at ONE Fight Night 6 last Saturday to capture the vacant World Flyweight Kickboxing Championship. The road to victory was anything but easy, though.

The title fight was anything but a cakewalk for Superlek. His opponent, Danie Puertas of Spain, was as aggressive and game as they come. He definitely came to fight and seize the opportunity that was given to him. From thievery first round, Puertas took the fight to Superlek and applied pressure.

But Superlek had his own game plan and he stuck to it throughout the fight. He countered effectively as Puertas repeatedly moved forward to throw his combinations. And it nearly backfired big-time as Puertas nearly went down after a solid counter from Superlek in the third round. He was clearly in trouble and unsteady on his feet as Superlek went for the kill, but could not finish the tough Spaniard.

The fourth and fifth rounds were close, with both fighters giving it their all in fierce exchanges. However, it was clear that Superlek was getting the better of most of those exchanges and was in control of the fight. Puertas had his moments, but they were few and far in between. Everyone who watched the fight, both those who were in the stadium and who were in the comfort of their homes, knew the outcome was all but inevitable - Superlek triumphant.

The event was held at Impact Arena in Bangkok, which made the victory extra special and meaningful for Superlek. Thai fans who were in attendance erupted in celebration as Superlek was declared the winner via unanimous decision. It is a nice addition to his long list of accolades, which includes titles in Lumpinee Stadium and WBC Muay Thai.

Superlek, who is one of the premier members of YOKKAO’s Fight Team, is not resting on his laurels. The newly-crowned ONE Kickboxing Champ already has his sights set on upcoming challenges. He is keen on challenging for the ONE Flyweight Muay Thai world title that is currently held by fellow Thai superstar, Rodtang Jitmuangnon.

But before that materializes, he is off to the US in a few days to embark on an exciting tour of MMA gyms for an unprecedented cross-training event. Backed by YOKKAO, the event will serve as a friendly ‘exchange of disciplines’ that will eventually be beneficial to all parties involved. In any case, Superlek is sure to ride the momentum of his latest victory to stay sharp and stay at the top!
